The Ukraine war began in April 2014, following the annexation of Crimea by Russia in March of the same year. The conflict began in eastern Ukraine, primarily in the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, where pro-Russian separatists declared independence and fighting broke out between Ukrainian government forces and the separatists. The war has since resulted in thousands of deaths, displacement of civilians, and ongoing violence and instability in the region. Peace talks and ceasefires have been attempted, but the conflict remains unresolved.
